I’m so in need of your expertise! 2 months ago, I had my third child! We are very happy with the size of our family and we’ve decided not to have any more children. Now, that I won’t be having any more kids, I want to focus on getting a flat stomach again. what advice would you give on how to tighten your stomach? I don’t want to have surgery, at least not yet. And even if I decide too, it is recommended to get back to your healthy ideal body size and get as much fat off your stomach area as possible so that the results will look better and last longer.

Thank you for writing to me and congratulations on your new baby! I totally agree with the surgeon’s advice on getting to your ideal body weight and size before going full force into having a tummy tuck. I’ve worked with many new moms and I know how to tighten your stomach with a few recommendations.
Start Gentle Exercise
After having a baby, it will be at least 6 weeks before you can do any exercise. When starting back to a regimented exercise regime, you will want to take it slow. You may want to go out the gate like a racehorse, but if you overdo it, your body will pay for it with pain and a huge setback due to muscle strain. Walking, yoga, and light strength training a good regimes to start with. Working out your entire body will help help to support your core abdominal muscles which will begin to tighten and get you back to your pre-baby body shape. Walking, yoga, stretch, and tone exercises are great to start with.
Eat Protein
Make sure you are getting enough protein. How much do you need? At least 90 grams of protein daily. This is not a lot if you consider you can get most of it through a protein shake that provides at least 25 – 30 grams of protein. Do 2 of these days and the rest of your protein can be with lean protein such as fish, chicken, and lean grass-fed beef. If you are an animal protein lover, you can get protein from beans, legumes, soy, and other plant protein sources. Just make sure your 3rd meal during the day outside two shakes provides at least 30 grams of protein per day. Shakes are great because you can add healthy supplements like omega 3 through flax and chia seeds. You need healthy omega 3s because this will help tighten your belly fat. Protein helps your body create more collagen which helps to tighten your belly.
Eat Lots of Green and Colorful Vegetables and Low Sugar Fruit
Some of the best vegetables to eat are veggies that are low in calories and sugar. Peppers contain capsaicin to help you to burn that stubborn fat. Toss sliced pepper in your salad at lunch or dinner. Chilies help to curb your appetite and help to burn more calories. Onions are low in calories and add lots of flavor and cucumber has tons of water and can be sliced and added to your salads, or even water. Veggies, like tomatoes, broccoli, spinach, asparagus, and kale, are great vegetables that are low in calories and high in antioxidants that will help create new tight skin. Eating low-sugar fruits like strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries will help tighten your skin and stretch marks if you have them. Fruits like peaches, apples, pears, and oranges are good too. Grapes, pineapple, watermelon, mangos, and bananas have more fruit. It’s not like you can’t eat them, it’s just that you want to limit them. You can add a small amount to a protein smoothie and you will still taste their goodness without all the sugar and calories.
Drink Lots of Water
Water helps to eliminate toxins caused by the foods you eat and by the bad bacteria in your gut. Make sure you drink at least 64-80 ounces of water daily. After having a baby, you lack elasticity in your skin and it takes a few months to get your skin to get hydrated. To check your skin’s elasticity, gently pinch your skin and see if it bounces back. If it doesn’t bounce back, you need to drink more water to hydrate yourself and plump up your cells. Areas such as the skin under your eyes can become dark if you lose elasticity and are not hydrated.
Work on Your Core
Your core is your stomach muscles. If your core is not strong, you will suffer from all types of muscle and bone conditions along with sagging belly skin. How you can tighten your stomach faster, yet be gentle at the same time is to start off with three simple exercises.
The First is to do Planks
Planks are simple and engage all your core abdominal muscles, making them an excellent exercise for tightening your core. To do one, get in a push-up position. Raise your feet to about shoulder height by balancing them on an exercise ball, or a stool. Keep your arms flexed just slightly, not locked, and hold that position with your core muscles engaged for one minute.

Lay on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Put your hands on the sides of your head, or across your chest. Keeping your back and neck very straight, sit up by engaging your abdominal muscles. Raise yourself to about 45 degrees, then lower yourself, but not back to the ground. Repeat. The third is doing leg lifts.

Keep your feet together and raise them about six inches off the ground. Raise them to about a 45-degree angle, then lower them to six inches above the ground again.
