5 Reasons Why You Have Thin Eyebrows & How To Grow Them Back Thicker And More Beautiful
Dear Victoria,
I’m a big fan of yours and have been getting your newsletters for a couple of years now. My question today is about how to grow thick beautiful eyelashes. Mine are getting thin and sparse and I feel I am way too young to be experiencing this condition. All my friends have beautiful, thick eyebrows and I feel like the left-out ugly duckling. Can you tell me how to have thick eyebrows? I’ve tried a few DIY remedies for a few months and didn’t see any results. It got worse. What are some things I can do that are easy and affordable?
Sincerely, Tracey
Hi Tracey,
When it comes to eyebrows, unlike eyelashes, the trend dictates what is beautiful and popular. Over the years, the most prominent women wore their eyebrows as a way to create individuality, charm, mystery, and intrigue. The woman who historically is known for creating the use of makeup was Queen Cleopatra. Egyptian eyebrows were dramatically brought into modern awareness by the big screen. Actresses like Elizabeth Taylor who played Cleopatra and in the famous movie by the same name.
Marilyn Monroe’s eyebrows were created by the infamous Allen “Whitney” Snider who was her makeup artist throughout her career. Allen created the shape of her eyebrows as a way to help create a heart-shaped face and help minimize her wide forehead. Thicker eyebrows were a sign of beauty and sensuality. When thinking of growing your eyebrows back, also think of why you have thin brows. Here are a few common reasons why you could be experiencing thin, sparse brows.
1. You Are Trying To Get Rihanna’ New Look
The 70s may be coming back again, but you don’t have to be a part of the movement! Rihanna’s new look is the thin brow look. This look is achieved by shaving and plucking your eyebrows. This can severely damage the hair follicles and stop the hair from growing back again. Please stop plucking – you can shape your eyebrows by lightly waxing under the brow or on the inside of the brows near the bridge of your nose for clean shaping. Plucking isn’t bad for your eyebrows. It’s OVER plucking. It’s always good to use a mix of threading, waxing and tweezing, depending on what is needed to create the perfect arch.
2. You’re Nutrient Deficient
Your Eyebrows Are Screaming, “Feed me!”. When you are not getting enough nutrients like vitamin B12, vitamin D, E, A, and C, you will begin to see your hair and eyebrows start to become thin. Eating foods that are stripped of nutrients like junk food and eating a diet that doesn’t include a lot of green vegetables and healthy fats like omega-3 fatty acids, will result in dry skin. Your skin is the foundation for healthy hair. Start including whole foods in your diet. Whole grains, lean protein, leafy greens, and fruits like berries and apples will help your brows grow back nice and thick again.
3. You’re Hormones Have Called It Quits
At about age 30 hormones begin to decrease resulting in a loss of hair, energy, and weight gain. One sign of decreased hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, is thin eyelashes and eyebrows. Fortunately, you don’t have to rush and get bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. You can make sure your diet provides a healthy amount of protein and healthy fats. Second, you can take supplements like biotin. Biotin helps to build healthier strong hair and nails. Collagen is another protein made by the body. You can add collagen protein to your shakes to help your body produce more naturally which in turn helps to grow healthy hair and brows.
4. You May Have A Medical Issue
If you are feeling fatigued, experiencing weight gain, thinning nails, hair, and brows, and you are constantly cold all the time, you could have a thyroid condition. Never let these symptoms go unchecked. Make an appointment with an endocrinology specialist to rule out any hormonal conditions that could be giving you these symptoms. Another problem that causes thin brows is due to an iodine deficiency. Once again, let a physician, who will take extensive blood work, find the cause of the problem. Your job is to get checked.
5. You Lack Enough Protein in Your Diet
Your hair is made of a specific protein called keratin. Protein is necessary to help your body produce more of it. Each strand is fortified with it and protein is the nutrient that will help your brows grow back. People who have restricted diets like vegetarians and vegans, or those with an eating disorder like bulimia and anorexia run a higher risk of not getting enough protein. Animal proteins like chicken, beef, eggs, and dairy are good sources of protein. A good quality protein powder either whey or plant protein sources can provide a healthy source as well. You can also get protein from beans, nuts, and legumes.
HOW TO GROW YOUR EYEBROWS BACK THICK AND BEAUTIFUL AGAIN!
Use Coconut Fruit Extract
Coconut fruit extract is different than coconut oil. Extracts are processed using hundreds of fruit or herbs and are a diluted version of oils. Oils can cause the skin to get clogged. Extracts are a lighter version and the molecules are smaller which allows them to be absorbed by your skin better than oils can. Coconut fruit extract helps your brows grow back thicker, stronger, and with a healthy shine. Extracts are more expensive and can be purchased through manufacturing companies that specialize in fruit extract manufacturing and distribution.
Use Sesame Seed Oil
Most oils are thick and can clog your pores and stunt the new hair growth. Sesame seed oil is different. It is very light and the molecules are smaller than other oils and can be absorbed better into the skin. Dab a small amount on a cotton ball and saturate your brows with it twice daily. After several weeks you should start experiencing more hair growth.
Take Probiotics
Your overall health is created in your gut; your small and large intestines. You have both good and bad bacteria in your gut and both are needed for you to be healthy. However, when you have more bad bacteria than good ones, it can result in malnutrition. Your intestines may not be absorbing the nutrients you are eating because you lack the enzymes and enough good bacteria to help you do this very important job. Taking probiotics can help. You can get probiotics in pill form, liquid form, or in Greek yogurt.
