3 Things You Should Do Instead of Microblading For Fuller, Thicker, Beautiful Eyebrows

I’ve been suffering from thinning eyebrows for years. I think it is a result of plucking my eyebrows when I was in my teens, and eyebrow waxing over the years. I’ve tried so many eyebrow pencils and I even had eyebrow tinting done and I looked like Groucho Marks afterward. Thank God it only lasted a week. I’ve been looking into getting micro-blading done to my eyebrows and even though there are beautiful results out there, I’ve seen some horrible screw-ups! What would you suggest I do if I want to have beautiful eyebrows?

Hey Tanya! Great question! There’s so much information out there about micro-blading and I’ve always been an advocate for the latest procedures ONLY if the side effects and risks are low and it seems micro-blading is one of those procedures that’s very risky. Here is my take on the subject.

First, what is Microblading? Microblading is a semi-permanent tattooing procedure that can last from 1-3 years. It’s not as invasive as standard tattooing and looks natural.

Before you rush out and get your eyebrows micro-bladed, consider the following reasons why you may want to ditch the whole idea.

#1 – The Cost Of Eyebrow Microblading

Be prepared to dump some serious dough for this procedure. It may set you back $350-$2000.00 dollars depending on the artist and procedure you need. Don’t always go for the cheapest price. Remember, you get what you pay for.

#2 – You Have To Get A Darn Good Tattoo Artist

People who post on social media their micro-blading successes are a good place to start. Check out at least 5-10 artists in your area and research, research, and do more research. There are so many techniques and every artist is different in their approach. Know what type of shape you want to have and if that shape will be popular in the next 3 years. Find out what type of pigments the artist uses. Do they have a YouTube channel you can follow? How long have they been doing it? Can they do a temporary treatment so you can see if you would like it or not? It’s all about who you go to.

#3 – It Can Hurt 

Many artists use a numbing cream to get you prepared for the treatment, but some don’t put it on during the first stage of the procedure so there may be a lot of pain to endure.

#4 – Microblading Requires 6-Week Touch Up

The six-week touch-up is where the eyebrows are refreshed if any fading has occurred and is when the eyebrows look the most natural. Therefore, you may go through an ugly period before you get your dream brows.

#5 – You Could Get Botched Up! 

Do reverse research too on people who have experienced botched-up procedures. Learn what happened through their experiences and don’t go where they went.

#6 – Tattoo Laser Removal May Be An Added Expense

If you don’t like the shape, color, or fading you may have to spend a load of cash getting tattoo laser removal treatments. Now, you’ve opened a big can of ugly worms! What was thought to be an easy, beautiful solution to thinning eyebrows has turned into a Halloween-like fiasco.

#7 – Consider Healing Time

Many people go through a period where their eyebrows are healing and it can be a mess. The micro-blading tool used is a thin knife-type instrument that cuts the skin. There is bleeding and the cuts leave scabs that hold a lot of pigment-making your eyebrows look much darker. For over 24 hours, you are not allowed to wash or clean the area. Complete healing can take up to two weeks. Scabs should not occur if done correctly and having scabs is an indication that your eyebrows will fade.

#8 – Allergies

If you are prone to skin sensitivity, food allergies, or other types of allergies, you may want to have a skin patch test first to see if you get an allergic reaction. You may want to do this anyway even if you don’t have allergies.

#9 – Premature Pigment Fading

Many people have complained about how their eyebrows fad drastically within just a few weeks after treatment and even more after the first touch-up.

#10 – The Shape

You may have a shape you want, but when you get it, you realize it doesn’t compliment your facial contour. Once the shape is established, you are stuck with it.

Explore Other Microblading Techniques. Other techniques may look more natural than the standard micro-blading process. Micro feathering can be done if you only need light fill-ins where the hairs are spare. Then, there is the option of micro-shading that resembles eyebrow powder. These may work better and will give you a more natural appearance.

Try a brush on eyebrow tattoo gel. There are many over-the-counter eyebrow gels that you can try that only last 2-3 days. For as little as 13 dollars, you have a more natural look and you’re not forced to have permanent eyebrows that you don’t like.

Try Eyebrow Airbrushing. This is a technique using an airbrush machine, eyebrow pigment, and an eyebrow stencil. It gives a natural look and it lasts longer than an eyebrow pencil.
